CLOSED Wheat's End Cafe

About Us

The journey to Wheat’s End began when co-owners Susan McMillan and Amelia Fonti helped a close friend who was diagnosed with celiac disease to develop gluten-free versions of her traditional baked goods for her Lebanese restaurant. Around the same time, Amelia learned that she too was gluten intolerant. It quickly became apparent that there was a growing unmet need for gluten free food that did not compromise taste and texture.

In January 2013 Susan and Amelia created Wheat’s End Artisan Foods, a 100% dedicated gluten free food company in Chicago, Illinois, to provide surprisingly delicious and nutrient-rich gluten free breads, baked goods and fresh pastas to a wide variety of hotels, restaurants, and retail stores. Soon thereafter, they opened Wheat’s End Café, a friendly haven where people can dine in or take out delightful baked goods, drink great coffee, and enjoy an inexpensive gluten-free brunch on Sundays.
